Kat Kaufmann, born in Saint Petersburg, came to Germany in the early 1990s. She studied jazz, classical composition and orchestration. For her debut novel Superposition, which tells the story of a jazz pianist and deals with the themes of art, home and being lost, she was awarded the ZDF's aspekte literature prize for the best literary debut in 2015. She is currently writing her third novel. Kat Kaufmann lives and works in Berlin.
